Kawabata Shopping Arcade turns into a lively festival street for the day, with flea-market finds, market stalls, food stands, and entertainment filling the 400-meter covered arcade from early afternoon into the evening.
Visitors can browse, snack, and stop for a drink as they make their way through the shopping street, while performances and other activities get underway from late afternoon on the stage in front of Kumamoto Bank. Now in its 11th year, the 2026 festival takes “Fairy Tales” as its theme, adding an extra layer of color and fun to the event.
Stretching between Canal City Hakata and Hakata Riverain, Kawabata is one of Hakata’s classic shopping streets, and on festival day it becomes even more animated, with plenty happening from one end of the arcade to the other.
