Architect Suzuko Yamada’s first solo exhibition, “parallel tunes,” travels to Kitakyushu following its Tokyo presentation. Yamada approaches architecture as a “polyphonic environment,” where nature, people, objects and other living things interact while retaining their individual presence. The exhibition introduces this approach, inviting visitors to reconsider architecture as something freer and more alive than a single, finished form.
Known for her own home, “daita2019,” and a rest facility at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, Yamada has recently been expanding her practice into public spaces.
The exhibition explores a world in which architecture, nature, living organisms and landscapes each follow their own “melody,” existing alongside one another rather than being brought into a unified whole. Yamada describes her vision as a polyphony in which consonance and dissonance sound together, rather than a symphony striving for harmony. Through drawings and works on display, visitors can explore this more open, living conception of architecture.
