Looking for a spot to enjoy some top-notch sushi and Japanese cuisine? Look no further than Sushi Kappo Asuka, the newest restaurant to grace the Meinohama Station area. Located just a stone’s throw away from the station’s north exit, this restaurant offers impressive views of the surrounding area and an open kitchen surrounded by a 12-seat counter and 6-table seats.
Fresh seafood is sourced from the Nagahama fish market every morning and carefully prepared in wooden boxes while waiting for its turn. The fish is temperature-controlled to maintain its freshness until it is cut and served as sushi or sashimi just before being presented to customers.
Sushi chef Kengo Mitsuno’s 18 years of experience show clearly as he expertly cuts each type of fish in a visually appealing delight and serves on traditional Arita porcelain from the renowned Fukagawa Seiji brand.
The restaurant offers a ¥ 7,000-course menu that includes three appetizers (rape blossoms, sea cucumber, and nanban pickles), a seasonal sashimi platter (five varieties), grilled black wagyu beef with kelp, simmered arakabu (marbled rockfish), fried fugu (blowfish), and eight pieces of seasonal sushi with red soup. The anago (conger eel) sushi is a standout for its soft texture and sweet soy sauce flavor.
The dessert and matcha tea are not to be missed. A unique service offered by the restaurant is the fresh cheese dessert made by pastry chef Shinkai Nobuyoshi with years of experience. This dessert can also be ordered à la carte.
In addition to the course menu, customers can choose from sushi platters with 8, 10, or 12 pieces, daily à la carte dishes listed on the board (such as grilled iwashi [sardines] for ¥800 and scallop and onion kakiage for ¥700), and Japanese sake with a focus on junmai-shu sake from Tohoku and Kyushu, as well as draft beer.
