Itoshima Farmhouse, which is owned and operated by Itoshima City, reopened in May 2020 under the new name of Itoshima Farmhouse Uovo. Every day, fresh eggs are delivered from Uovo’s poultry farms to the shop where they are turned into delectable custard-flavored soft-serve ice cream, puddings, and other original sweets. Uovo also serves up tamago kake gohan, or TKG for short (raw egg on rice; a kind of Japanese soul food), made with fertilized eggs. (TKG available from 10:00.)
Uovo’s eggs come from cage-free chickens raised on locally sourced feed. Its Tenjoran eggs are lower in cholesterol, higher in protein, and have twice as much DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid) as typical eggs. The fresh, firm eggs pair perfectly with the shop’s original soy sauce, made especially for its TKG. You can also buy vegetables raised by local farmers, cartons of Tenjoran eggs and Uovo’s original soy sauce to take home. Use the greenhouse next door to enjoy a BBQ regardless of the weather.
