Since 2013, Fukuoka City has recruited 10 supporting companies for its Streetlight Partner program. Under this public-private initiative, companies receive the right to advertise on city-owned streetlight poles in exchange for fees that go to maintaining the lights. There are now more than 80 poles covered by the program. Every year the City spends roughly ¥600 million on electricity and maintenance for its 36,000 streetlights, or about ¥17,000 per pole. Streetlight Partner companies agree to pay ¥20,000 per year for three years. The City hopes to recruit even more partners going forward. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 3/6
