JR West President Takayuki Sasaki revealed that the ridership on the direct service between Kagoshima and Osaka is 23 percentage points higher than the other services on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line. He said this demonstrated the specific effect of direct service to Kyushu. The ridership on the direct service from March 12 to April 5 was 69%. President Sasaki said the numbers were rough, but there is no question that more riders have been heading to Kyushu since the service began. He thinks there is also room for the ridership to grow.
