Ferry service has begun between the city of Gwangyang in South Korea and the cities of Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu. The ferry, which is berthed in South Korea, is the Gwangyang Beech and has a capacity of 740 passengers. It will make two round trips a week to Shimonoseki, and once a week to Kitakyushu on a trial basis. The destination of all the existing ferry departures from the Kyushu region to South Korea is Busan. The operators see the potential of demand for travelers from the western and southern parts of the Korean Peninsula to Kyushu.
