A Fukuoka Prefecture group consisting of local financial institutions and the police department has formulated a policy of denying loans to businesspeople with ties to criminal gangs. The objective is to cut off the funding sources of those gangs. The financial institutions already have been denying loans to gang-related businesses in accordance with the regulations of the Japan Bankers’ Association, but this is the first time in the country they will deny loans to individuals.
