Fukuoka Zoo’s Orangutan Dead at 53

Mimi, a popular orangutan, bred at the Fukuoka City Zoo, was found dead on the morning of December 14 at an estimated age of 53. Mimi was the oldest male Bornean orangutan in Japan, and the zoo will set up a flower stand on the 15th as a gesture of respect. Since he arrived in 1988, Mimi has been a popular and energetic zoo member for more than 30 years. The number of Borneo orangutans kept at the Fukuoka City Zoo is now two, a 32-year-old female named Nana and a 10-year-old male named Riki. A flower stand will be set up from December 15 to December 28 to mourn the loss of Mimi. Source: Fukuoka City Zoo / NHK
