Yoshinobu Kawasoe of the Takeo Municipal Library in Saga Prefecture has written a book explaining the historical significance of the old Saga domain. Published by Gendai Shokan, the work examines events in the domain, which is known as one of the cultural and political leaders of the Meiji Restoration. It was one of the first in Japan to introduce Western learning, military equipment, and medical care. Kawasoe said he would be happy if today’s Saga natives were able to have confidence in their home by learning its history.
