Concerned about cutbacks in electric power supply during the summer months, JR Kyushu announced it will shut down some automated wicket gates and restrict the use of air conditioning on trains. The wickets in question will be in 39 stations during hours when there are fewer riders. The air conditioning thermostat will be raised to 26C from 25C. Some automated ticket machines will also be shut down.
