Yesterday sixteen new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Kitakyushu City, bringing the total for the city to 85 in the past eight days. An elementary-school student in Kokura-minami Ward tested positive after he came into close contact with another patient. His school will be disinfected on May 31. The city points out that the recent surge in the virus infections can be partly attributed to the improved system for PCR tests. Meanwhile, one new infection was reported in Fukuoka City, involving the re-infection of an elderly care home resident in his seventies. The cumulative total for Fukuoka Prefecture is now 746.
