Kumamoto City will install cameras at the front of all municipal streetcars to record the drivers’ operation of the vehicles starting October 1. The objective is to increase the drivers’ awareness of safety and to enable a prompt response in the event of an accident. Two years ago, one local streetcar driver was found to have been negligent and caused the death of a woman after striking her. This will be the second streetcar camera system installed in Japan, and the first inside the vehicles.
