Kyushu Shinkansen to Install Anti-Roll Devices

In light of the effects of the Tohoku earthquake, JR Kyushu announced that beginning this year, it would install devices on their Shinkansen tracks to prevent the trains from rolling over if they are derailed after an earthquake. The device is a metal rail placed between the two tracks that will keep it from running too far off the tracks even if it derails. JR West has already installed them on a trial basis on the Sanyo Shinkansen.
