Auto production by Nissan Kyushu and Daihatsu Kyushu in March was roughly half of that originally projected, it was learned. The cutbacks stemmed from an inability to procure parts after the Tohoku earthquake. As a result, Daihatsu Kyushu production for FY 2010 was down 1.4% from the previous year to about 336,700 units. In contrast Nissan Kyushu production climbed 34.2% year-on-year to about 413,500 units, buoyed by exports to North America before the earthquake. Nissan’s production figures were still below initial projections, however.
