Some members of the Kumamoto City Council objected to the language of a proposed bill for sexuality equality for participation in society, saying that it was “a denial of traditional Japanese culture”. One of the sentences they disliked read: “Consideration will be given to prevent the influence on the free choice of men and women of systems, practices, and the allocation of fixed roles based on sex”. The members proposed roughly 50 changes in the language of the bill, which were adopted.
