Ostrich producers in Kagoshima Prefecture have formed an organization and settled on a location for their headquarters. According to the Japan Ostrich Industry Network (JOIN), full-scale ostrich breeding for meat in Japan began in 1995. About 10,000 birds are produced every year, of which 1,000 are grown in Kagoshima. The Kagoshima association is the first one in the country at the prefectural level.
