A 74-year-old former breeder, Yoshie Yokoo, in Yanagawa City was arrested for allegedly violating animal welfare laws by selling cats without proper registration and keeping cats and dogs in poor conditions. Between December of the previous year and January of this year, she sold five unregistered cats to two pet shops and was suspected of abusing 5 dogs and 29 cats in May by housing them in squalid environments. Police found 21 cages filled with waste, some reaching 38 centimeters high, in her residence. Yokoo, once a registered breeder, has reportedly sold 50 unregistered cats since the previous May, earning over 4 million yen, and has admitted to the allegations. Source: NHK
