Record-High Salary Increase at Yaskawa Electric in Kitakyushu

On the focused response day of the spring labor negotiations, March 13th, Yaskawa Electric, a leading industrial robot manufacturer based in Kitakyushu, announced a significant wage increase. The company agreed to a base pay rise, marking a record-breaking increase of ¥13,000 per month, the highest in its history. This negotiation took place at the company’s Kitakyushu headquarters, where management conveyed the full agreement in writing to the union representatives. Starting the new fiscal year, the base pay will be raised by this amount, with the total increase, including regular pay raises, averaging over ¥20,000 per month or about 6%. This increase is the most substantial since the current demand format was established in 1998. Senior executive officer Ayumi Hayashida commented on the raise, highlighting the significant challenge of responding to inflation in Japan and the necessity for companies to provide adequate answers.
