Sea Cucumber Poaching: Fisherman’s Family in Hot Water!

A fisherman and his family have been caught in a slippery situation after being arrested for illegally hooking 620 kilograms of “black diamonds” – the luxury seafood delicacy, sea cucumbers. These five slippery suspects include 71-year-old fisherman Kim Chong-il, his wife Fujie Nakano, their son Junichi Nakano, and two accomplices Yuki Sato and Takuro Shimaya. This fishy family and their partners in crime are accused of poaching the pricey sea cucumbers off the coast of Karato Port in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, without the governor’s permission. The Moji Coast Guard reeled in Kim Chong-il back in February, and the investigation that followed netted the other four suspects. With sea cucumber prices soaring in recent years due to increased demand in China, it’s no wonder these sea critters have become such a catch. But these alleged sea cucumber snatchers aren’t off the hook yet – the investigation continues, and additional charges might be on the horizon! Source: TNC1 / TNC2
