Sony is in negotiations to buy back a semiconductor plant in Isahaya, Nagasaki Prefecture, from Toshiba, it was learned. Sony originally used the plant to produce high performance semiconductor cells for its PlayStation 3 game equipment, but sold it to Toshiba in 2008. Now the company wants to increase production of image sensors for digital cameras and other devices, and thinks that buying back the plant will be cheaper than building a new one.
