Miyazaki Prefecture Gov. Hideo Higashikokubaru announced the partial lifting of the state of emergency declared to cope with the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease among cattle and pigs there. Major events throughout the prefecture had been postponed, and residents were asked to curtail unnecessary trips in the areas hardest hit. These restrictions have now been ended for those areas outside of the 10-kilometer range of those areas where animal movement has been restricted.
