The city of Takeo in Saga Prefecture has prohibited all its employees from engaging in overtime work for two months from July 1 to cut back on electricity use. City officials think they can save as much as 10 million yen in overtime allowances, and they also want to promote a “work-life balance”. If the program doesn’t impair city functions, they will consider extending the ban.
