Trolley Train on Former Coal Tracks Resumes Operation

After a hiatus of four years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a trolley train that uses the tracks once used for coal transportation in Akamura resumed operation, attracting families and other visitors. The local volunteer group had been running the trolley train every spring through autumn to promote the use of the route, which had been established in Akamura for transporting coal from Chikuho. During the first day of the resumption of the service, visitors rode the red train, and many were pleased to see a lot of bats at the turnaround point, a tunnel. The trolley train, which runs on a 3.6-kilometer round trip through the mountains, made its way refreshingly with rattling sounds and took about 20 minutes to complete. The Akamura trolley train will run once a month until November. Source: NHK / Akamura Trolley Train
