Woon Tien Wei

This month FN showcases one of the young Asian artists whose work will soon be appearing in Fukuoka, in celebration of the 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale. Although he hasn’t been in town long, Tien’s work is sure to make a big splash. If most modern art seems to be trying to grab your attention, Tien’s project for the Triennale aims to give something back. As part of Singapore art collective Post-Museum, Tien is working on the “Fukuoka Really Really Free Market” (FRRFM). “We’re going to work with volunteers to create ‘free zones’ around Fukuoka,” says Tien. Within the free zone people are encouraged to share objects and services for free, and Tien hopes that it will make people think about the idea of “alternative economies”. Tien says he’s met many Fukuoka people who are excited about the project, and says he’s looking forward to seeing a Fukuoka interpretation of “alternative economy”. So get out there and share the wealth! For more information see the Triennale site: http://server-foundation.org/frrfm
