The Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade, and Industry released figures for large retail store sales in Kyushu and Okinawa Prefecture for August that showed a 0.9% drop from the year before to 126.8 billion yen. This was the first year-on-year decline in seven months. The factors cited included a cooler summer after last year’s extremely hot summer, and the closing of the Hakata Daimaru store in Nagasaki. It is the first decline since Hakata Hankyu opened in Fukuoka City in March.
