Autumn is an especially good time to enjoy food in Japan and this issue has heaps of foodie info to sink your teeth into! For ramen lovers we have a guide to Fukuoka Airport’s Ramen Runway, and it’s nine ramen shops from around Japan. Our restaurant pick this month is Barba Bianca where chef and sommelier Kazuya Okubo prepares Italian inspired cuisine in a 120-year-old residence in Hakata. Finding a good latte in Fukuoka is a snap, right, but where to go for good artisan chai? Turn to page 19 to find out! But our big find this month is definitely Merican Barber Shop Fuk. It’s a cave-like basement with a barbershop, a bar and a lounge that just oozes cool. We also introduce Hanagen Honzenan, a soba restaurant in Hakata that offers much more than just noodles. Try their tempura, meat dishes and impressive stock of shochu. In our Itoshima Now section we continue to introduce lesser known destinations, shops and services. Curious? See p. 20.
